Pasquaney gives campers freedom to choose the activities that most interest them each day so they can develop initiative and learn to plan their time. Campers are also entered in competitions ranging from tennis and baseball to water sports, providing them the opportunity to push themselves, work alongside teammates, and bring out the best in each other.
Boys are scheduled for an activity about one third of the time. Otherwise, they choose from the options that the counsellors announce after each meal. We require the boys to keep busy, but it is up to them to shape their time as they choose, and counsellors work with boys to use time effectively. Campers are encouraged to try everything in their first year — to be renaissance campers — and later to concentrate on their particular interests.
