Monday, July 18th — Today we woke up to the hottest morning of the summer yet and made it through our normal morning routine in the fastest time yet, making it to Mem Hall early for breakfast. Prior to the meal, Mr. Vinnie announced that Jack Anderson, Wesley Richardson, and Simon Peterson were elected Captains of Industry during Sunday’s council meeting. The morning ran smoothly with most activities running per usual. Much to the sailors’ delight there was a decent wind in the morning which subsequently meant that the crew program kept the activity fairly limited. In the Shop, the boat builders made progress as they attached the bottom to the main body of the dinghy. After soak, the first 16-year-old Skit rehearsal took place. In the afternoon, rest was extended because of thunderstorms that came in during the early afternoon. As the weather settled and rest ended, the entire camper body participated in the swim competitions. The seniors raced in the 100-yard swim, Juniors in the 50, and Sub-Juniors in the 25. As boys completed their swims, several activities opened up, including a nature specie led by Townley and Sam to feed trout with trapped bugs. For campfire we had “camper-led circles,” where groups of campers headed to various areas around the hillside to participate in camper-only circle discussions. We made it to bed on time and listened to Taps just before the evening rain commenced. All in all it was a good day.
