With rain showers forecasted throughout the day, campers slowly trickled up to Camp and were greeted by both 16 year olds and counsellors. Returning campers entered via the Chapel lot while new boys came up Favor Lane, due to parking being restricted on the newly surfaced and painted basketball court! Many goodbyes were made to parents, pets, Snapchat streaks, and the outside world. Dorm meetings soon followed along with a quick inspection before the opening ceremony by the flagpole. Right as Mr. Michael began reading an excerpt from the first chapter from The Story of Pasquaney the rain increased in intensity. Looking like he’d practically just hopped out of the lake, our steadfast Director pressed on with the proceedings. Twin brothers Aurélien and Alexis Hullin, the youngest campers, then raised the flag. After the cannon snapped everyone to attention, Bumpson shared some wise words for the season ahead. Upper camp tours, given by older boys to their younger campers, followed along with the first swims in Lake Newfound. Chef Billy cooked a delicious dinner, including shrimp. Following the meal, Camp gathered in Baird hall for a council song and a reading of “Pigs is Pigs” by Mr. Michael. With the rain finally coming to an end, we made our way to the dorms for bed, marking the end of an exciting and wet Opening Day at Camp Pasquaney.
