Sunday was our last full day at camp before setting out on Expeditions. Naturally, there was a great deal of energy and excitement mixed in with some nervousness and apprehension. Sunday inspection was won once again by Stanwood Porches, who at this point have a clean sweep on weekend inspections. Following inspection was chapel. The reading was the Good Samaritan and the topic of Mr. Vinnie’s sermon was kindness and consideration of others. Campers were eager to raise their hands to share reflections on why we can be cruel to one another, even as we recognize the power and importance of giving and receiving acts of kindness, and we were reminded of the quote by Henry James: “Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” Our day ended with a cookout at Mem Hall due to rain, followed by singing in the Watson Theater followed by dorm Circles before taps.
